Hard starting when warm

I have a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD with 155,00 miles that I have been working on for a while. It has a new head gasket, fuel filter (I have about 40 psi fuel pressure), a new turbo, new O2 sensor, vac lines, and have cleaned most everything. I haven't heard any other Talon when starting, so I don't know whether the starter is winding slow or not, but it starts fine when the engine is cold, but as soon as it gets hot, it refuses to start until it cools down again. To me, the injectors sound like they could be the culprit, yet I'm inexperienced and don't want to dive into something that is unlikely to do any good. I'd appreciate any input that you can give me.

have you replaced all the fluids?

I replaced engine oil, coolant, steering fluid, but not the transmission fluid, but I doubt that makes any difference. I did test the compression and got about 45-65 psi. It has about 155000 miles on it, so some lost compression and some exhaust smoke is expected. Is this compression low? Thanks for the input, it's been a while since I first posted.

The compression is very low.

Can be cause by an incorrect valve timing

Recommend you check the timing belt or chain

What i would examine is the air filter and piping to make shure they are clean and not clogged first off. 2nd the fuel possibly may not be reaching the fuel injection system. and lastly it might be corroded battery terminals(especially the ground, they are quite finnicky or touchy sometimes.) Hope this helps you even the slightest bit and let me know how it goes and if you have any more questions.

Thanks for responding. I've talked to others about this and they seem to lean toward the expansion of the block or pistons that makes it hard to start. With low compression to begin with, does it make sense that compression would decrease after running it for a while? I haven't tested the compression while it was hot, so if I can get the chance, maybe I'll try it.

Have you checked the coil? if not do so you will find that this could be your problem. Even if the coil test good if you know someone that has the same car you do try swaping coils and see if that helps.

I haven't done anything with the coil. I'll try that. Thanks for the tip. I'm actually going to a tech school in three weeks, so during Christmas break I think I'll completely tear it apart, replace rings and valves, maybe get the shafts balanced, too. Thanks a lot for all of the info.
