This is the code that came up on my vehicle. So do you have any pictures as to the location of these sensors? Thank you

Here are the locations but also the testing for this code.

P0366 Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit Range

Run through this and let us know if you have questions. Thanks.

Good Morning: We changed out the exhaust sensor and the jumping returned after about an hour driving or less. Should I change out the other sensor beside it, ignition one I think it is? Also this is my sons car and he said there is a noise coming from the timing belt cover.

Okay. Did the code return? These systems are monitored pretty closely so if the code or a different code didn't pop up, I would not replace any more of these. The issue could be related to this system but again, if no codes, the PCM is seeing what it needs out of these phasers.

I think at this point, let's get a recording of the "jumping" and the noise if possible. Clearly 2 videos is fine.

At this point I am not sure they are all related but they very well could be so let's work through this step by step. Starting with any codes and then recordings so we can get on the same page. Thanks

I guessed I goofed and so did AutoZone. What they sold me was the two sensors that are side by side vertically. I guess they are not the camshaft positioning sensors. Anyway the car won't start and it really sounds like to me when I try starting it like it is a timing issue.

Okay. If the car won't start it very well could be a timing issue as you said. Can you get a recording of what it sounds like when cranking? They do have a distinct sound when this is the issue so I can try to confirm that for you.

However, we can also eliminate fuel and spark by following this guide. Your engine needs fuel, compression, and ignition at the right time. If it is out of time then the compression and ignition will not be correct and it will not start. If you don't have fuel then it won't start either. Try spraying some starter fluid in the intake and see if it starts.

Also, if all else checks out we may need to change the plugs because if we have been cranking the engine and it has been spraying fuel then the plugs could be fouled. If they are then you may fix it at some point and not know if because the plugs are fouled causing a no start.

Thank you. I will try that. He has a quarter of tank of gas but the car has over 200,000 miles on it. When I go to start it, it sounds to me like the motor is not turning over right. Definitely not firing. I will try the steps you outlined. Thanks a bunch.

Good morning.

Back to the HHR problem after taking a break. I have ruled out the timing issue because the code reader is pointing to the sensor. If you recall in an earlier reply I replaced the wrong sensors. The two on the very top of the engine I thought was the correct sensor. Turns out they weren't. Is there a sensor A and a Sensor B? Also if I reset the code, would the engine restart if just for a short time for a diagnostics? Thanks

You don't have a sensor A and B you have an intake and exhaust sensor. They can be referred to as A or B but that is a little misleading. The code you had was for the exhaust sensor. Is that the one you replaced? Refer to the attachments. Number 5 was what the code P0366 is talking about. However, please refer to the testing I attached previously because there are other causes then just the sensor that can cause this and we need to go through the testing to find out what that is.

P0010 - Intake Cam position solenoid control circuit

Okay. Here is the testing for this code. Basically it is saying that the ECM has an open circuit to the intake cam sensor in this case. Again, we need to follow the testing to find the issue but most likely it is a wiring or connection issue.

Let me know if you have questions about this testing.

Good Morning again.

Still trying to resolve the HHR issue. I replaced the camshaft position sensor that is in the back top right hand side as I am looking at the engine. It was not hard to get to, but I can't seem to find the second location.

The cam sensors are on the same side of the engine. Take a look at the diagram. Looks like you got number 11 and now need to get number 13. I thought prior that you were talking about the actuators which are on the other side of the engine. The diagram shows each of them for you to find them.

I was able to locate the last sensor I needed to replace which was actually almost in plain site. Issue still the same although I hear what appears to be trying ti fire. Question, if I remove the valve cover, can I detect any issue with the chain before resorting to tearing it down? Before this all happened, my son told me that he heard noises coming from the chain case area. Thanks, Mark

Well, the sensors never worked. It does sound like it wants to fire now but my greatest fear is the timing chain because I have replaced everything else. The scanner tool still reads camshaft sensor Bank 1. For some reason my scanner does not want to erase the code.

If we can hear the engine cranking over we can tell if the timing chain is okay or not. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can hear the noise? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response. That way we can see what is going on. How is the power output on the engine?

I will let it charge up real good then shoot over a video Ken. Battery is low now just tried to start it. Brian said this all started when driving down the road it started jerking and he also told me he heard a noise he thought coming from the timing area then going down the road it shut off and would not start. I had it towed to good ole dad's house for repairs, lol.

I hate to say it but your fears may be accurate. That is what an engine that is out of time sounds like.

I included the entire process for the timing chains. Let us know what you find. Thanks

Thanks Ken. This car has over 200,000 on it. Do you think it would be worth the time and cost to do this replacement given the miles on it?

That is up to you but there are a lot of miles on it. if it was well taken care of, oil changes etc., it should be okay for a bit longer.
