Hi,
As far as the issue, the entire driveshaft shouldn't need to be replaced. You can replace the universal joint which will be much less expensive.
However, I need to confirm something. When you say driveshaft, are you referring to the propeller shaft that connects the trans to the read differential or an axle assembly? I ask because the axles can often be referred to as a drive shaft.
