Does traction control depend on catalytic converter functioning properly

Traction control will not work any more (slipping tires on wet pavement). mechanic replaced O2 sensor and problem returned. now they claim that the left catalytic converter must be replaced to make the traction work again. I know that this catalytic converter innards had been previously scraped out because it was causing trouble. It does not make sense to me that the traction would be directly tied to the catalytic converter. My car has 170,000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission.

traction control is automatically knocked off by the ABS unit if any kind of problem or the traction control module, a converter will not do that. if he does not have a scanner to scan for ABS or traction control modules you'll have to find a mechanic that does. converter codes are either p0420/0430.

Traction Control on that vehicle can be disabled if there are codes set in the Engine Control System. The O2 sensor and a bad catalytic converter would both set codes in the ECU. That could be enough to trigger the traction control off.
