i have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 that is overheating. It smells of engine coolant after running. i changed the fan clutch, the thermostat, and radiator cap, i am loosing coolant, and it seems, the thermostat does not open. it can get extremely hot after only 5 miles or less.[img:20a4291c96]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/256216_DODGE_YELL_BEACH_1.jpg[/img:20a4291c96]

Is there a visible leak? if not I assume you are loosing coolant. Can you see any bubbles in rad? Does top rad hose get very hard after a little time ? When you turn it offf does it blow back through recovery tank?
If yes to first two ? then possible head gasket failure
If yes to next two ? then needs thermostat.
