2004 Dodge Truck intermittant violent shaking

recently, we had a small accident on the passenger side and front end. we took it in, had all repairs necessary and they say they can't find anything wrong. the truck will intermittantly shake violently over the speed of 45. the mechanic said the rear rim is bent. can this have an effect on the front end?

A bent wheel will not be intermittent, and you'll feel it in the seat, not the steering wheel, if it's in the back. Take it to a shop that specializes in suspension and alignment. They will perform a thorough inspection and recheck the alignment. If "caster" is too high, the steering will have an exaggerated response to road bumps, will require higher steering effort, and will return too fast after a turn. The fast return is related to "overshooting" center causing the wheels to oscillate back and forth. If your truck has a conventional steering system, (not rack and pinion), a missing or defective steering damper will cause the shaking.
