What Do I need to expect monetarily & possible complications?
Driving at 55mph heard Pop, the speedometer went to zero then gears unresponsive and discovered a three inch gash in the rear differential housing cover. I was planning to pull cargo trailer across country the next day.

due to the damage you are saying you have, i t would becost prohibitive to fix this axle. you would need at least new gears which depending on which rear end you have is $1000-2500 and the carrier which is $1300-2900 depending on gear ratio. do yourself a favor and go to www.junkyarddog.com andtell them what you need and you will many replies within a day or so.that would be your best bet.
