I have a 83 Dodge w150 5.2L. I get no spark at all.
Car cranks but obviously doesnt turn.

There were many rusted out parts so here is a list of whats already been replaced within last 2 weeks:
Ignition coil: Twice
Ballaster Resistor
Distributor cap
Spark plugs: set at .035
Spark Plug Wires
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel Line: 5/16
Fuel Sending Unit
Ignition Start Relay
Distributor Rotor
Battery
Ignition Control Module

only thing I havnt replaced is the distributor pickup becuase i'm not sure how to get it out of there. I removed two screws from plate but something else that i cant see is still holding it down. I also have not replaced starter relay just because.

any thoughts?

These would be among the possible causes if "no spark". What muddies this up is so many parts were replaced. If you run into a bad part out of the box, you may have a new source for a no start.]

Here are some test procedures that may help.

Hey I was just about to perform all of the recommended steps and noticed something on the fire wall very rusty with a hole in it. Turns out it is a voltage regulator?

Could this have anything to do with the no spark issue?

Thank you for the wiring diagram. Is there any way you can provide a larger image. I tried to resize but it is very blury and i cant make anything out.

If this is not an option please provide the source and I'll try to retreive it.

Thanks again,

Ralph

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....

ok i starting putzing around with the + - wires connected to the coil and i finally got a spark. Engine still wont turn over and I noticed the ignition coil is BURNING HOT!. timing seems ok.

I poured a little gas in the carb and heard a LITTLE backfire but engine still wont start up. This is frustrating. Also checked the firing order as displayed in the haynes manual i just bought today and I believe I have it right. The dist. rotor looks to be pointed to plug #1 too.

So two sum up it up:
Getting spark now
Really, really hot coil
engine will not fire or turn over
heard a little backfiring after pouring gas in carb.

and just becuase everything was original and rusty never tuned up or falling off here are the parts replaced:
Ignition coil
Ballaster Resistor
Distributor cap
Spark plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel Line
Fuel Sending Unit
Ignition Start Relay
Distributor Rotor
Battery
Ignition Control Module
Voltage Regulator
Start Run or Pickup Relay
I have not replaced the distributor dual pickup coils.

any additional thoughts before i light the thing on fire and push it off a cliff?

Forget the hot coil issue. Resolved that short at the ballast resistor. Danm thing just wont start. Cranks and cranks. I did notice that I had an orange spark not a real good blue one btw.

Rechecked all the spark plus cables for correct firing order. gettin close to giving up.

Someone!!!!!!!!!

Could I have solved spark issue that was masking a fuel issue now? Carb? Any way to test that?
I know Im all over the place. Sorry.

ok here is the update. after following electrical wires around and replacing several sevaral parts I have a spark now.

Car still doesnt start. I get alot of backfiring from the carb and if I pump the gas enough times while trying to crank the engine the carb spits the gas out.

I verified the firing order and it is correct. Checked the timing and that is correct too.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are flooding it. Pull a couple plugs and make sure they are clean and dry still. IF the the plugs are fouled that may be your last link.
