2005 Dodge SX Front Wheel Drive Automatic 99,000 miles

my dodge sx2.0 has been having problems for some time now, i took it to a mechanic and they were unable to diagnose the problem through diagnostics check-sometimes while driving my gas pedal will not respond, i press down on it and nothing, then al of a sudden it responds and the car jolts back into motion...ne ideas?

it could possibly be that the fuel filter is clogged or if its the fuel pump have someone turn the key and put your ear up to were you pump your fuel is there a clicking or any noise at all?
if not then it could be your fuel pump!
