2000 Dodge Stratus chk eng light, speedometer malfunctions,

Hi my name is Tina. Can u please help me? My 2000 Dodge Stratus check engine light came on a couple weeks ago and my speedometer quit working. After a day, the speedometer started working again, but the check engine light stayed on. The next week my speedometer went haywire again and when I was speeding up, the auto transmission would not shift out of first gear. The rpms reved up to 4000 and still would not shift. I let it sit about an hour, and it ran normal. Yesterday it did the same exact thing except it seemed as if the car overheated, also after 3 hours I tried again and it would not shift out of first. This morning it started and ran ok, but I seemed to feel it tug occationally when slowing down or speeding up. Thank u very much for any way u may assist me. Sincerely TINA
