1998 Dodge Stratus Oil Change question

The last time I took my car into the shop for an oil change the mechanic had to put in a rubber stopper because the threads on the oil pan stripped themselves when the screw was removed. Am I in need of a new oil pan or are there any other less expensive fixes.

Hi there,

There are other less expensive fixes, you may be able to re tap it and fit an oversize plug, or you can drill and tap the old plug through the center and fit a bolt and seal as a new drain and weld the old plug into the sump, your mechanic should be able to suggest a suitable repair that is quick and cheaper than a new sump.

You just need a thread chaser (sometimes they call it heli coil) for (M14 x 1.50 thread). Run the thread chaser into the thread (to fix the thread, and put the coil in its place. The coil will become the thread. Get yourself a new oil drain plug, you should be fine.
