My son has a 1998 stratus 2.5 which lost spark.
We changed the distributor and the crank position sensor and the car started up fine.
Now the car has lost some acceleration and the exhaust pipe after the manifold is glowing red hot!
Also change the EGR valve and solenoid.
It seems to idle fine but driving the car, it loses rpms going up a small slope and the car dosen't downshift.

Any ideas? Is the distributor off timing?

Sounds like the engine is running too rich check the following below:

1.Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2.Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3.Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4.Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5.Restricted air intake system.
