I have a 1996 dodge stratus and it has been leaking tranny fluid for about two weeks. I brought it to a local shop and they told me i need a CV shaft seal. I want to know if that is something I can do by just tearing down the front end. I dont want to start tearing my tranny apart because I dont know what I am doing.

This is a fairly simple straight-forward repair, . . . if you have the right tools. You'll need to split the lower ball joint from the spindle and use a long pry bar to lower the control arm. The half shaft can be removed then to gain access to the seal. It will take your mechanic about an hour and a half to do the repair if the car is on a hoist.

If you aren't familiar with taking brake and suspension components apart, it is safer to let the professionals do the work. They will know how to disassemble it so it's not necessary to have it aligned afterward.
