my 2000 dodge ram1500 van engine (v-8 5.2 overdrive) makes a whistling noise when i hit the gas.it raises in pitch as i accelerate.

I had this same issue in my '97 Plymouth Voyager. Mine was due to a failing serpentine belt and V-Belt. I bought the best you could for my car, replaced the belts and its quiet now. See if the noise is comming from the belt area, if so, check them out.
