My trucks engine has been making a "whizzing" noise for a few months now (very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from...noise sounds alot like the noise new brakes and rotors make when you spin the wheel). I've removed the belt and the noise goes away, but I can't pin down what it is. I replaced the alternator, idler pully, and tried a new belt. The noise occurs starting at about 1400RPMs and is it's loudest at about 2000. It goes away (it's inaudible) below about 1400 or so. Temperature hasn't sky rocketed yet and I don't have trouble with the steering yet, but the noise is driving me insane, and I'm afraid something is going to leave me stranded if I don't get it fixed. Help!

Hi:
Check the water pump to see if the bearing is going bad. Se if there is any up and down movement. Also, check the weep hole to see if there is any evidence of a minor coolant leak.

Let me know what you find.
