2005 Dodge Ram water pump leak primary to secondary engine

brought our truck into shop for basic oil change/fluid check etc. was running fine before. picked truck up shop said we had slight leak in water pump, told them they had replaced it 4 months earlier. they said it would be fine to drive and to bring it back in 2 days. drove truck next day it overheated. towed it to shop and they said we needed a new engine(valve and lifter prob)quoted us 5600 dollars. didnt give us any option and said overheating did not cause us this problem. took it to a second mechanic who did tests and said it is probably a valve problem and will have to take apart engine to tell for sure. need help what do you think?? very desperate to get advice.

IF it overheated, I feel they are responsible for it. First they just replaced the pump, and they told you it was safe to drive.

Can you explaine what is happening? What valve is the mechanic refering to? Why do they think you need a new engine? Does it run at all?

Hi joe, thanks for responding to my question. My truck is fixed now. The mechanic that has my truck now did diagnostics on it and found that it was just the rocker arm. The original shop I took it to that put in the faulty water pump never gave us any other option than replacing the engine. They never mentioned that there could be something going on other than that I needed the engine replaced. Dont know if what happened could have been caused by the engine overheating but we are down $500 all because the original shop didnt want to take resposibility. Either way at least I didnt have to get the engine replaced. Unfortunately I never wanted to go back to that shop to allow them to fix the water pump because of how they treated us. Even if they did replace the water pump they made it sound like it would do no good because my engine was bad. I will be writing them a letter and I hope they will compensate me but I am glad that I didnt pay $5600 for a new engine. Do you think they should compensate us? By the way I got lots of info on a p0308 misfire code on dodges- probably due to a a rocker arm problem if everything else has been checked. thanks again for responding. Elizabeth
