2002 Dodge Ram Blower motor

I think my heater blower motor is shot. At first it sounded like it had leaves in it and some leaf pieces were coming from the dashboard. The truck sat unused for a long time. I would just start it on the weekends and let it run. Now only the high setting works and it's really loud and vibrates the dash.

I don't know where the motor is located - will I have to take out the dashboard ? and if so is it something I should mess with?

I would say you need to remove the motor to clean out what is in there. As far as it running on hi only, most likely the blower motor resister has gone bad due to too much amperage being drawn from the motor.

As far as doing it yourself, it is an involved job. The motor is under the dash on the passanger side and will require some components to be removed. Plus, you have an air bag that you will be working near. If you decide to do it, (and I think you could) purchase a good repair manual designed for your truck. It will provide step by step instructions and pictures to help identify parts. Also, replace the blower motor resister.

If you run into trouble, let me know. Also, if you buy the part at a nationally recognized parts store like Auto Zone, Advance... They may be able to print out the procedure for you. It may save you the cost of the manual.
