1999 Dodge Ram Voltage Regulator or Recifier Bridge

1999 Dodge Ram V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Friend heard a beep in his truck, MIL came on, charging gauge pegged to 18 volts. He shut it off, restarted it problem gone, 2 weeks later same problem twice in a day. The vehicle had no drivability issues, could this be a voltage regulator problem possiby a rectifier bridge? Rec. bridge in alternator I believe, what about regulator is this an computer issue or is the regulator able to be serviced?

Check alternator fuse 140amp 18 volts hmmm- overcharging find it quick battery could blow up. Sounds like the computer controlled of the field generation circuit

Sorry truck is an 01" not 99" would this make a difference? It has the 5.9L, checked it out today with Matco scan tool, got a PO455 and one other code related to charging voltage too high (DTC not in front of me). Not sure where alternator fuse (140A) is located, could not read schematic you included in reply. Also volt gauge is only sporatically at 18v with no drivability issues, fuse would not cut in and out would it??? Thanks again, Tommy
