Started truck to warm up , shut off after about 5 min. Would not start back , no sound of fuel pump priming. could not find a fuel pump fuse, still no fuel pump priming. Checked for power to relay with key on and off checked out ok. Suspect bad fuel pump, replaced with new Bosch fuel pump. Still no fuel pump priming. Know suspect electrical problem but don't know where to look.

Took top off of relay , I can manually close the connection at the relay and fuel pump will run.
I am getting power to relay from key switch, but not sure about signal from PCM.
What would keep PCM from signaling fuel relay?

Inertia switches are a troublesome Ford thing. What is the exact symptom? Does the starter crank the engine? Is everything out, including the instrument cluster? What is the correct engine size?

The first thing you need to do is read and record the diagnostic fault codes. Chrysler made doing that yourself much easier than any other manufacturer. Cycle the ignition switch from "off" to "run" three times within five seconds without cranking the engine, leave it in "run", then watch the code numbers show up in the odometer display. List any codes in your reply and I will interpret them for you, or you can go here for the definitions:

https://www.2carpros.com/trouble_codes/obd2

You need to check for spark in the normal fashion, and check for fuel pressure. Try to listen for the hum of the fuel pump for one second after turning on the ignition switch. If you have no spark, start by inspecting the connector and wiring for the crankshaft position sensor. It is important to understand that sensor's circuit can have a problem and may not set a fault code just from cranking the engine, so we cannot assume it is okay if there is no code related to it.

The fuel pump keeps cutting off. We took it out and tested it to a battery and the pump still works. We also also tested the relay listening for the clicks and switching them, but the fuel pump still is not working.

So when the fuel pump is not working are you missing the ground side or the power side?

check fuel pressure it may be to low or pump is getting hot and cutting off. gasoline lubes it so that may be why. also try resetting security system if no owners manual look online. auto parts rent gauge. here is an article to help

I have a dodge ram 98 5.9, I have checked the fuel pump which works great (It is fairly new as it was replaced 3 months ago) , I have tested the fuel pump relay and it seems to work right when testing but doesn't work right when actually ON the truck. Anyone have any idea what could cause the relay to work right OHM/volt testing but not work on the truck?

Summery: The truck died at 55 MPH now cranks but will not start, the fuel pump IS working , the Fuel relay works ONLY when OHM tested. Currently there is no gas getting to the engine but I have gas, no power to the fuel pump. I have checked all fuses and they all work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Check and test the ASD relay, also the actual fuel pressure with a gauge and check for spark and also if the injectors are pulsing-

Thanks for the quick reply. We did JUST get it figured out and the truck is running , it seems to be a problem with the prongs of the Fuel relay. If you jiggle it , it works. Guess I need to go buy a new one, the prongs are not connecting right. Oddly enough a suggestion from my wife, sure enough her suggestion was correct. Don't tell her that! lol

Oh and all of that was in fact tested, that is pretty much why I was so stumped! I have never seen a prong wear down, hopefully it is the actual prong of the relay and not the box connection.

have a 1998 dodge ram 1500- 2wd 360v8
a while back electric fuel pump stopped working (100% sure it was pump), replaced it and truck ran fine for three months. Drove truck all day for work, and had not one issue. Parked in driveway after work, next mourning fuel pump wouldn't kick on. Replaced fuel pump, still wouldn't come on. Replaced relay to fuel system and asd still no pump. Ran hot wire kicked right on, checked fuel all the way to fuel bar but won't start up. Turns and turns but no start up, and turns like the tank is dry. Should mention truck has been wrecked and beat to hell(work truck). I'm thinkin ecm at this point or maybe something to do with asd system. What is your idea's and please let me know how to check..........Thanks for any help you can provide

Hello, the injectors won't pulse without rpm signal. I would have thought there would have been an initial prime from the pump key on, engine off. Did you check the wiring circuits, voltage feed, to both asd and fuel pump relays. I believe the voltage for the load side and coil side of both relays should be hot all the time. Use a testlite.

replaced fuel pump 6 months ago, truck ran fine for 3 months after. Parked one night in driveway, had ran fine all that day. Next mourning pump would not engauge with ignition and has not ran since. Put another pump in recently and no change. I have checked all fuses and relays ,seem to all be good. can hear a relay tick when key is on but not sure which, also once key is on for 15 seconds i get a ding and fuel light comes on dash at same time odometer will begin to flash.followed wires throughout and see no bare or bad spots in loom. test lighted wires had power to relay, power to relay junction(engine inline)on bottom or pronged side(when touching prong that leads to fuel pump relay it will tick.Any idea's, maybe a roll over reset button(can't find) or safety shut off....Does flashing odometer when fuel light comes on mean anything?

OK first off you need to check fuse number 9 in the fuse box inside the truck. Now if this is good then in the under hood fuse box there is a fuel pump relay and an auto shut down relay. I will need you to be able to check both. Now you will need to have a digital multi meter for this part. Let me know if you have one and I will walk you through the test to see what is or isn't going on. Thanks and get back to me.

98 Ram 1500. Battery went completly dead. Went to jump start with a plug in type charger. Used the start mode less than 3 minutes. Now fuel pump wont power up. Checked all fuses. Checked ground wires on batt terminals(replaced). Checked ASD and fuel pump relays. Relays checked good but no power to terminal 86 with ignition on. Where do I go next. The schamatics are hard to read. It looks like the power is comming from the ignition switch??

I'm not sure of engine litre size? Fuse 9--10 amp fuse, use testlite, check fuse circuit for voltage, goes hot when you turn on the key. Also, check fuse 3-- 20 amp fuse in power distribution center under the hood, use testlite on fuse circuit, should be hot all the time. Let us know what you find.

Like I said there is no power comming from the PCM to the #86 terminals on the ASD or the Fuel relays. Is this a ignition switch or PCM problem.

I fear I already know the answer, but just trying to make sure I've covered all the bases before the knuckle busting begins. Truck was running fine. Came home, next morning wouldn't start. Cranks like crazy, no fire.
Noticed I don't hear the fuel pump prime now. Checked all fuses (under dash, under hood) and played "musical relays" swapping like relays for fuel system and ASD.
Gave it a shot of carb cleaner, fires off and tries, so seems there's spark. Had a buddy crank it while I beat the b'Jesus out of the bottom of the tank. No joy.
Is there anything else I could check, or is it time to lay in a supply of beer, bandaids, and a fuel pump?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Access the fuel pump connector and make sure power is getting there. IF it is, try to get yourself an OEM one from the dealer. Aftermarket ones usually fail early in my experience.

Thanks, Service Writer! I cozied up under it this afternoon with a test probe and I AM getting the couple seconds of power to the connector when the ignition is turned on. Thanks also for the tip on an aftermarket pump! I'll head over to the dealer tomorrow and get the show on the road. I owe you a [insert favorite beverage here]! Thanks again!

Hi
Have you tried to jumper relay ? Does relay click when key turned? Can you get to pump connector and see if voltage and ground are present? Try swaping relay with the ASD next to pump relay.
Let me know
Thanks for donate
