Just bought a 1998 Dodge Ram. Starts Fine. Idles fine in park. Sluggish in reverse. Starts off in second gear. Hard time shifting. Stalls at stoplights due to not down shifting. Replaced tps and map sensors with no changes. Any idea on what is causing this?

Inspect and test the torque converter clutch solenoid could be the cause of it stalling and not shifting properly-try disconnecting it and see what happens.

they changed the transmission fluid gasket etc..still sluggish even when in reverse it stalls and doesnt want to move. When driving if you shift manually it shifts fine. Where is the torque converter clutch solenoid? How hard is it to get to? How do you test it?

This problem can be a nightmare to figure out-Sounds more like internal problems with the tranny. Get it pressure tested.
