1997 Dodge Ram ODB-II codes

I see you attached a screen shot of a diagnostic tool showing P0331 code, however this does not answer my question about what could be causing the code to be thrown?

That code applies to the knock sensor its job is to retard the ignition timing when the engine starts to detonate/ping-

Understood, however I called the dealership and 1997 dodge ram 2500 does not have a knock sensor?

I was just fixing to tell you that-after looking over in the Mitchell1 auto references it shouldn't give that code-try clearing it again and see what happens-

I've puilled that code in my scantool which I installed into my PC for quick references-

I have reset the code many times and it keeps coming back after about 15 miles of driving. If it helps P0300 and P0303 come with it on occassion but not all the time. The engine runs great but the check engine lite concerns me and I am worried about passing an emission test with these codes.

Misfires can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

A Random Misfire code P0300 usually indicates a vacuum leak or bad gas.

If a misfire in a specific cylinder should lead you to check the spark plug, fuel injector and compression for that cylinder
