1997 Dodge Ram Check engine light

Your ECU has logged a fault code, this can be checked with a scan, this will retrieve the code which will correspond with the item or system that is causing a problem, get the scan done and re post the code for more assistance.

Nice Van. The light being on is the computer's way of telling you that it detected one of the sensors is "out of range", it's not usually a serious condition. What ever triggered the light will be stored in the computer memory so you'll have to have the computer scanned to retrieve the stored code and description. Most major auto parts will scan the computer for free. Autozone does it for sure. Hope this helps.

the code given to me is p1764----transmission problem

right now she is at the shop where the mgr. told me it was a valve and sensor in the transmission---which he will have done before 4:00p.m. today-----

hopefully I will be on the road tomorrow-----if this is the only problem that arises.........

does this sound right----

he said she was starting out(from a complete stop) in third gear.
