Has the check engine light come on? Also, how are the plugs fouling, fuel, oil...?

You missed the other part of the equation:

What has been done to the intake? If you are fouling plugs and it is running hot, you are not getting the right air/fuel mixture.... Possibly. Good next thing to check.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. At this point, I'm trying to determine where the problem is coming from. It could be a compression problem.

Do a quick compression check and that will tell you if that is the cause......

Just follow the fuel route and check each segment:
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow.......

Suck comes first and is usually forgotten.
