1988 dodge powerram 50

Have a 1988 dodge power ram 50 engine is a 2.6 5 speed manual transmission. Here is the problem My husband purchased the truck 2 days ago when he drove it home the clutch seemed to slip a little at first but did ok and he drove it about 5 miles home. It started to be hard to move. You could rev the engine and it would move a little . It would move in 4 wd but not 2. Now it can be started in first gear but will not move at all . please help us. It has clutch cables can these be adjusted or is the clutch out thanks again
