How do i remove expansion valve on 96 carvan

On the air conditioniong system how do i remove the expansion valve that is on the firewall? i removed the nut that holds the ac hoses but what holds it to the ac evaporator?

The valve should pop right off but the base is part of evaporator. It is probably stuck and corroded as often happens. Work it very carefully or you will snap the evaporator housing.

so there is no nut on the back side of the expansion valve?

no nut just a flat fit with a metal washer which is probably corroded. Go to the Zone and get some rust inhibitor in a spary can. Put it on and let it sit for a couple of hours. Good luck
