Hi:
It could be several things. However, I would start by looking for a vacuum leak. Check the vac. lines for cracks, dry rot, damage, or something being disconnected. Also, make sure the carb is tight and all vacuum lines going to it are connected. I had an 83 charger that did the same thing. For me, it was always the vacuum hose on the front of the carb.
Let me know what you find. Also, has the vehicle been tuned up lately?
