My Dodge Neon Shakes at 25 miles an hour

first of all why in the world would anyone put the new tires on the back of a front wheel drive car and the old ones on the front? it sounds to me that the old tires on the back, one may have a broken or twisted steel belt. or, the lug nuts were not tightned properly. i can't see having to lock-up the brakes would hurt the trans unless it is a stick.

I ask that same question and was told it was to prevent over strearing.

I was told today that the shaking may be cause to a broken transmission mount. Could that cause my problem?

I had a similar problem with a different vehicle. I had a new Chevy half-ton van. At four years old the drive shaft joints wore out (It was a two-part shaft). I replaced them and upon road testing the van began to shake at 25 mph and above. It was so bad that you could see the roof vibrating up and down. I figured that the new universal joints were bad so I installed another set only to have the same problem. Next I had the wheels balanced and still the problem persisted. I took it to a mechanic who said the universal joints were bad. I told him I had installed two new sets but still he figured that's what the problem was. He replaced the joints only to find the problem was still present. He balanced the wheels and still the problem was there. Next, he put the van up on the lift supported by the chassis, put the van in gear and ran the wheels at speed. No problems with the wheels but once the speedo showed 25 mph, in came the vibration again. They looked at the driveshaft while it was turning at speed and there was no problem with it.They said they had never seen anything like it and could only guess that the flywheel might have shed a balancing weight. They even installed new wheel bearings, to no avail. I never did get it fixed. I sold the van, instead. End of problem.

you probably need to look at your front joints or the real problem is your lower control arms need replaced neons have a history with the bushing going out in the control arms. :!:
