I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 and for some reason, just of late, the exhaust is white. The engine does not overheat and the turbo is cool, also the oil is clean and intercooler is perfect. I have been getting some white smoke when I accelerate quickly and am also getting a choppy start in 3rd and 5th gear. What is the problem here? and how much am I gonna be expected to pay for a mechanic to fix it, if it is not something with moderate mechanical experience cannot fix?[img:34a05060c8]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/515405_car5_1.jpg[/img:34a05060c8]

Does it blow white smoke under boost only?

White smoke is generally coolant, have a compression test performed to rule out head gasket/intake gasket.

While turbo is water cooled, it is rare for the turbo to blow white smoke, when they fail they blow blue (oil) smoke.

Have you increased boost by using an aftermarket programmer?

Itll blow white smoke once the turbo is at about 2-3 lbs but then stops at boost above 5-6 lbs and the smoke is a bluish grey. The compression tests have came back normal and the head gasket has already been repaired. The turbo is also brand new. The boost hasnt been increased with an aftermarket programmer for a while now, since I ruined the first head gasket. I have changed to boost levels to stock after that one

If compression is OK, then perform a cooling system pressure test.

Blue smoke would indicate a turbo seal, did you pre-lube the new turbo, and verify oil was getting to turbo?
