As i am a little unfamiliar with these engines, i will talk about the theory side, which should clarify any points you may have.

The difference between the two engines is basically what is called the swept volume, that is the total displacement of the piston, there is a good chance that the 2.4 head is identical to the 2 liter, there may be a very small difference in valve size and cam profile but this alone would not make any noticeable difference in the drivability. there is an old says "there is no substitute for cubic inches" that is the more swept volume the better the engine, taking into account other head work that can be preformed, basically the difference you will feel is a better responding engine due to the lower end over haul, the head will be of minimal consequence i feel. the only thing that you will have to make sure is that the new head is compatible with all manifolds etc from your original engine.

Hi thanks for the informative post and quick reply. However thats not exactly the answer I was looking for. I have been told by numerous sources that most of your power comes from the head. I think you are saying that the 2.0 head and 2.4 head are identical and the only difference is the CC's determined by how big the bore and stroke of the motor etc. While you have made it somewhat clear in your opinion that bolting on a 2.4 head to a 2.0 block would result in a nominal performance increase, I am now wondering if such an action is even possible. Someone more familiar with the 2.0/2.4 interchangeability and overall changes that the head alone would cause would be greatly appreciated.

That is my concern as well, i have left this post open so others can view and comment , i have also asked the question re the compatibility of the two heads in our private moderators forum, i hope to get a response soon.

Well i have had some feed back on this head, we don't have that 2.4 version here, and i was unaware that it is a twin cam head...... we live and learn.... with this in mind i would say that you may indeed get some improvement in performance, but as others have noted, they feel that there will be a lot of things to be done to complete the conversion, they suggest contacting a wreckers that deal in these engines as they will be able to tell you what will be compatible with both engines, the most important thing is to make sure that the oil galleries are the same so th porting from the block matches, i have seen single cam engines vary from twin cam versions, but with the neon i am un sure, i have not been able to find out if the block's are the same, as this may alter the deck hight and cause problems with timing belts, the wreckers should be able to help out here as well.
