Engine problem
1999 Dodge Neon Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 84000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Just today, my car's oil light came on just as I pulled into the parking lot at work. After work, I decided to run it by the Jiffy Lube just around the corner to have them check the oil. They were the ones who changed it last. When I started the car that afternoon, the light did not come on. I took it anyway and they checked it and said it was kinda low. My last oil change was in Oct 2007 but they said the oil looked clean it was just low. They topped it off with 10W-30 and I left. A few miles from home, the light came on again, but I noticed that it only came on when I was braking or at idle at the stoplight. What in the world could be the connection between the brake and the oil light?? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Unless the oil light circuit is shorted to the brake light. If I were you have the oil pressure check if not could lead to major damages. Could be the oil pump or the oil sending unit.

Thanks for the advice. I got in the car this morning and the light did NOT come on the entire trip to work and back later. Very confusing. But I will definitely get the oil pressure checked asap. I keep reading in various places on the internet that it's best for my car to use 5W-30 motor oil instead of 10W-30.. Is there any truth to that?
