1997 Dodge Neon Fuel Filter or Fuel Pump

My vehicle had been spit firing (acting like it was going to cut off ) I had sparks plugs replaced and that helped a little but today it sputtered on the thruway. I have AAA and the person that towed me told me I had bad gas, or needed a fuel pump or fuel filter. I have been buying gas from the same place almost 15yrs and had 3/4 tank full. Does this sound like it could be the fuel pump or the fuel filter? If so, how would I go about repairing it??

Get a second opinion from a real mechanic who does some diagnostics. Chrysler fuel pumps rarely quit while driving. With high mileage, they will intermittently fail to start up when you try to start the engine.

Except for diesel trucks you will never solve a running problem on a Chrysler product by replacing the fuel filter. They actually pass the largest volume of fuel during coasting.

A common cause of the symptoms you described is the camshaft position sensor, or possibly the crankshaft position sensor, but some diagnostics should be done rather than just blindly throwing parts at it.
