Start by having the alt / voltage regulator tested. Most parts stores will do it for free. Let me know what you find.

This happens when the ground from the chassis to the battery is gone or damaged so I would check that first. Also, clean the battery cables this guide can help. If everything seems okay I would get a alternator, here is how.
