I have a 1995 Dodge Intrepid with 68,000 miles on it. The problem only occurs when the weather is cold: there is a very loud "popping" sound when turning the steering. It usually goes away after driving a couple of blocks. The noise sounds like metal getting in a bind and then snapping back. It occurs with even small turns of the steering wheel, not just when cornering. Thanks for your help

I have a 97 intrepid that was doing the same thing. What I found was that the bushing for the bottom frame needed to be replaced. Also, If your steering is hard to turn, you may also have a bad power steering pump. Have a look into these ideas.
