cooling fan

Dodge Intrepid 1995, 123,000 miles

The cooling fan is running all the time while the
engine is working.
Any suggestion?
I"ll appreciate your help very much!

when you turn the key to on without starting the engine, does the fan come on? if so it sounds like a stuck fan relay! if it goes off when the key is turned off it won't hurt anything, just keeps the car running cooler at idle. if you just bought the car then the fan maybe hot-wired and relay bypassed!

First, thank you for getting back to me.
When the key is turned on without running the engine, the fan is not running. I tried the two fan relays allready. I removed them and the fans went out. And also I exchanged the relays with others of the same kind from the relay box, but I still had the same results. I bought the car new eleven years ago, so, the wires are not by passed.
The problem is: when I first start the car and when the engine ice cold in the middle of the winter the cooling fans start running at high speed. It's not fun when I try to warm up the engine. I changed the coolant sensor but nothing changed.

Dear Losone,

After reading one of your emails on this site I 've decided to email you to ask for help. It seems that you specilize enough to give me an answer on my big problem.

Car: 1995, Dodge Intrepid, 123,000 miles

The cooling fan on this car is running all the time. As soon as I start the car it goes on. I changed the coolant sensor, but did not take care of the problem.
I also checked the fan relays: they seem to be okey.
Can you help?

Check your relays to make sure one has not melted itself into the "on' position.

I removed the relays and tried five other similar relays
from the relay box. I always got the same results. When I would plug-in a relay, the fans would start running. Now, I mainly run the car without having the relays plugged, that means the fans are out.
But I can not get stuck in traffic. If so, it will over heat.

More assistance needed...

Hi,
I had this same thing happen at almost the same mileage, but my fan ran all the time, even with the key off!!
Took it to a dealer shop, since I was not home & did not have time to look into it myself.
Dealer changed the primary coolant sensor. This item will run the fan after the key is off IF the engine is too hot to leave it after stopping.
You may need to have a good shop look into this.

Did you figure it out? I have a 96 Intrepid with 121,000 miles and its doing the same thing, I need help too.

Hello, how are you?

Nothing yet. All I did for now is removed the high speed relay. See there are two fan relays in the relay box. Now the fans are working all the time, but, in the low speed. That's better. Other than that I am still looking to find the answer on this problem.

I know what you mean, I did the same thing with the relays and they just keep running, I tried disconnecting the battery for like 2 hours hoping to reset the computer, I thought maybe that would do something, but didn't work, I have a friend of mine who's a mechanic, I told him about it and he said he would call a fried of his who works for Dodge but that didn't happen yet. I'll keep you posted if I find out anything.

Finally found the problem, it was the high pressure switch SKY, my friend was looking at my air conditioning, the compressor was turning on for about 5 minutes and then shutting off, which of course wasn't blowing cold air, so he put it on his scanner and it came up with the code for the pressure switch, which is located at the bottom left of the radiator ( cost him $ 81.00 it listed for $101.00 and he had to order it thru Chrysler ) but if fixed both of my problems, I now have cold air and the fans ares working properly now. WEW, I was beginning to think there was no cure. He had to cut and splice the 3 wire leading to the switch because of the conection on the new part did not mate the old plug.Let me know how you make out if you change yours. By the way is your air conditioner working right?
