no smoke that i can see. there is a slight roaring sound when the engine starts. this just noticed today

Well see if anything is leaking from either the muffler seam, or the weep hole on the muffler, you may be burning a wee bit of anti freeze...possibly a had gasket or intake manifold gasket is just begining to go..
