besides puting struts on what other problems can cause a car to make a scrapping or grindind noise from my front end

This could be your brake pad backing plates grinding against your rotors, or a bad wheel bearing/hub.
The brakes will sound like metal on metal and get louder when you hit the brakes.
A bad bearing/hub will sound like a jet engine on take off and get louder the faster you go.
