When I brake my car makes a grinding noise?

If you hear a grinding, it sounds like the brake pad is worn to the metal backing plate. If that is the case, there will be damage to the brake rotor. In most cases, both front brake rotors are replaced at the same time. Using new brake pads on an old rotor can lead to brake noise/squeal.

To replace the brake pads and rotors really isn't too difficult. To get you started, here is a link you may find of interest. It explains in general the procedure.
