Does the green "Cruise" light on the dash turn on? If not, suspect a broken clock spring under the steering wheel. If I'm right, eventually the "Air Bag" light will come on, and the system will be deactivated, and the horn will quit working too.

In reply to caradiodoc's question, yes the green cruise control light does come on.
i was told from the previous owner that the cruise is finicky and will work when it wants to.

Sorry for the long delay.

Since the light on the dash comes on, the clock spring is ok, and all the other switches should work. First, try pressing the "set" button while pulling the brake pedal up with your foot. If it works, suspect a brake light switch that's out-of-adjustment.

There could be a defective "set" switch. On some models, you can press the "decel" switch, and it will set at the speed where you released the button. Not all models work like that. On some, you must press the "set" button first before the others will respond.

Check the electrical connector on the servo for corrosion on the pins, and inspect the vacuum hose for cracks. I have run into a couple of defective servos in the past. One had a solenoid wire that wasn't properly soldered by the manufacturer. This is a common servo found on a lot of Chrysler models. You should have no trouble finding them in a salvage yard.
