Hello,
My Dodge Intrepid has been having some problems. Spark knock, oil burning quickly, and tires deflating mostly. Well I was making about a 100 mile drive on a very cold day and I just had the oil changed and all of the fluids topped off the day before, the car was filled with good gas (Shell Midgrade) and all of a sudden, the Check Engine light came on and when I pulled over to the side of the road, my car shut off. I tried to start it again and the engine would start (and sound like it was trying to run) and then die. It was cranking so I'm sure it isn't the battery and the temprature was under the half way point so I'm not sure what it wrong. Some have told me it might be a sensor or the fuel pump. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi:
It could be the fuel pump, but make sure before replacing parts. What I recommend is having the computer scanned for trouble codes and the fuel pump pressure tested. You should be able to rent the tools at a nationally recognized parts store.

Let me know what you find so I can direct you.

Well,
The mechanic did hook it up to the code detector amd oddly enough nothing popped up. I'm thinking it might have been water in the gas or a new fuel filter was needed. What do you think?

Hi:
Chances are it wasn't the gas. Did your mechanic check the fuel pump pressure?

If everything checks out ok, the only thing you can do is wait and see if it does it again. If it does, hopefully the problem will be identifyable.

Let me know about the fuel pump.
