1997 Dodge Intrepid Trouble with a simple connector, Pic in

Hi, im having trouble with a fuel filter connecto. Its not like any connector ive seen before. There are two connectors on this fuel filter, one I can remove, this one I can not.

Ive tried pushing it up and squeezing then pulling it down and just about everything i could think of but it just will not work.

You may not be able to see but theres a black plastic piece in the connector that also moves, slightly. Its between the metal part of the line connector and the fuel filter. It gos all the way around and has a small lip all the way around it. There are no obvious places to press on to loosen the line connector for removal.

Q) How do I disconnect that part of the fuel line from the filter?

you need to make sure no pressure on the system, the black plastic ring presses toward the connect fitting, while pulling on the fitting. You may need to use an open end wrench, to push the plastic ring. It may be stubborn.

The stupid thing is really stubborn because I was trying to get it off the right way. A wrench is a great solution.

There is also a repair kit available from the dealer. It includes four fittings, two are straight and two are curved. You use the two like your old ones. Dirt and salt get into the spring inside the metal connector body. I used to spray in Mopar MP-50, then use a needle nose pliers to work the black plastic collar in. It also helps to push the connector towards the filter body, then pry the black ring in. It gives the internal spring more room to expand. It's actually a nice design unless you live in Wiksconsin, the salt use capital of the world! Up here, we dump a truckload of salt on the first snowflake we see.
