Heater problem
1995 Dodge Intrepid Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Recently when it was thirty degress out side i turned the fan up all the way and the heater up all the way and let my car idol for a while while i was out side of the car doing something. The car started making a loud squeally type noise and some smoke came from under the hood close to the passenger compartment. the smoke did not smell like anifreese or rubber and the hot engine light was not on. I shut the car off imdiately and let it cool for a bit. Then when i got back in to drive home, the heater worked but the fan seemed to have decreased out put, but it seemed to put out good heat. So the fan is working but barely if i put it the fan on high after awhile the car makes the noise and there is a faint smell and the fan never kicks into what I would call high..

Hi:
Based on your description, it sounds like the fan motor is going bad. Check to see how many amps the motor is drawing and let me know what you find. Keep an eye in it if you saw smoke.

Hi:
The blower motor is under the dash on the passanger side. To get to it, you will need to remove part of the dash. Once there, you will need an amp gauge to determine if the motor is bad. You may want to consider replacing the resister. It's not an expensive part and it may take care of the problem. If you need directions let me know what you decide.
