to replace the front and rear shock absorbers , are any special tools needed? what parts should be removed to access the front shocks for replacement? which shocks are recommended? Are any other accessories recommended to stabilize the suspension? thanks for the help........Alan

No special tools are needed. I believe you have regular shocks all the way around and no struts. As far as brand of shock, I'm not allowed to recommend brands on here. Just stay with a brand name and I do recommend a gas shock and not oil filled. Here is a guide to help you step by step with diagrams below to show you how on your car.

Is it hard to change front shocks on a 1999 Dodge Durango. This would be my first time and I rented a spring compression tool from Autozone will that work.

Won't need spring tool just remove top nut raise and support truck remove two mount bolts and out it comes/
