we replaced the thermostat four times. Just replaced the water pump. This car has been acting up for a year by overheating. There is no heat in the winter. I understand this type of vehicle has this problem a lot but I can't find anyone who knows what's wrong with it. Mechanics say they flushed it also.

Hello,
Is the heater core bypassed? If it is not then there has to be a restriction in the system somewhere. There is no other explanation for this condition. You might have an air pocket that not allowing the coolant to flow. I have included in the diagrams below a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and a description of the cooling system for you. I have also included a few links down below for you to go to.
Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out please.
Thanks,
Alex

My wife's 03 dodge durango doesn't blow hot air for the rear controls. It does blow cold air, I checked the aux water pump and the hoses are warm and the electrical connection is good but still no heat. Can someone help?

All the other forums are talking about this problem. I have the same problem. It is most likely a broken actuator rod on the rear damper door which controls the rear heat. It is located by the passenger side rear heater under the panels there. You will have to disassemble the panels to look at the door and the rod that attaches to it. Apparently everyone is having the problem which is what is usually the case. They say it is expesive to get the part from the dealer but may be cheaper with junkyard parts. Hope that helps. I am going to tear into mine tomorrow and have a look but I am certain that is the problem.

We have replace the resistor 3 times along with the blower motor twice. Is this a common problem with this vehicle?

Hi,
Is the motor going bad or the resister? I've seen motors that draw too much power burn up resisters, but you have replaced everything. The only other thing I can think of is if there is a weak ground. The ground is provided through the switch. Have you checked the switch?
I attached a pic of the ground. Check to make sure it is in good condition. A weak ground can cause excessive heat in the unit.
Let me know what you find

check your resistor and relay they should be by teh blower motor. see if the resistor is getting power or not, that controls the lower speeds

Hi, my heater gets the cat hot but when you put your hand to the vents it seems like it's not blowing that much. Also, the rear A/C control only blow cold it does not get hot. What is the problem?

Hello, I'm Danny.
On the front vents have you checked to see if all the fan speeds work? As far as the rear heater it sounds like you are having a problem with the mode/blend door actuator. Here are two tutorials for you to view for blower motor and blend door actuators to show you what is involved:
Below I've attached a picture of the rear HVAC system and circled in red the actuators location. It's basically an electric motor that controls which ducts the hot or cold air travels.Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR BLOCK - FRONT
During vehicle assembly, the blower motor resistor is mounted to the HVAC unit inside the passenger compartment.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR BLOCK - REAR
The blower motor resistor for the optional rear A/C unit is located within the unit housing.

Check the heater core hoses to make sure both are hot when the engine is running, hot and the heater is on. If both are hot, check the blend door under the dash near the heater core. If it isn't opening, you won't get heat.

The heater in the front seats works great, but in the middle and the back of the vehicle it will only blow cold air. What would cause this?

The front heater will blow warm air after vehicle is warmed up and only on fan speed 1. if you turn it up any higher it blows cold air as if the heater core is not getting hot enough, have recently replaced radiator and headgaskets due to headgaskets blown. Had a shop do this. Also the rear heat does not work it blows outside temp air all the time. Please help me with this situation. Thank you in advance.

It is normal for the return to be a little cooler, but does it feel like the coolant may be taking too long to get through because the core is plugged? If not, have you checked the blend door?
