Noises problem
2000 Dodge Durango V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 160K miles

Yesterday my Durango started a soft clicking noise. Checked oil, was below the add line, added quart of oil. Is due for oil change. Clicking noise still there but is not constant. Just when first started this morning to warm up and when accelerating while driving. The noise does not happen when in reverse or foot not on the gas. What do I do next? If there is piston damage what could the approx. cost run to repair? Would changing the oil possibly do this? I live in the frigid midwest...so very very cold lately...

Also, could the u joint be the culprit?

if you are over due for the oil change and you are hearing a clicking noise then most likely what you are hearing in start up and acceleration is the lifters , this is a common noise with the low octaine of todays gasoline, combined with low viscosity (thickness) of your oil it will produce a light ticking noise almost sounding like an old sewing machine. you can change the oil and put oil treatment in and it will eventually go away. except when acceleration is happening, then you could use octane boost or try different merchant and differant grade of gas.
