Can the computer be reset.

The a battery went dead and my wife hooked the jumper cables backwards (only for a second), it burned out the 140 amp fuse, I replaced it. But the dash instrumentation is jumping all over. Also the radio won't come on... but it will eject the cd and take the cd in. How do I fix, can I reset the multiplex data network?

The "multiplex data network" is a pair of wires between all the computers on the car.

The 140 amp fuse did what it was supposed to do; protect the diodes in the alternator from overheating and instantly self-destructing when the battery is connected backwards. Diodes are one-way check valves for electrical current. They will appear as a dead short when the battery is connected backwards, and try to pass way too much current until they melt and short out.

The inoperative radio suggests another blown fuse. There are two for the radio; one for the unit to operate when the ignition switch is turned on, and one for the station presets and clock to maintain the memory. The memory fuse is part of another circuit. It could be labeled "interior lights", "lighter", "air bag", or some other circuit that stays live all the time. Check under the hood and under the dash for blown fuses.
