1989 Dodge Daytona starting problem

when you say twice, do you mean you had it towed, it started, got it hme would not start. had it towed again, started again, took it home and would not start??????? that would be very odd. do you think that there is something in the fuel line clogging the filter that gets pushed back while being shaken on the flatbed?

yes you are correct i towed it there then it started. the mech change the heat sensors. he kept it 4 about 1 week & said it started everyday. then i took it home yesterday & this morning it would not start I had it towed. when they dropped the car i tried 2 start it & it would not start. the mech came over turned the key & wham it started. now i left it there 4 the weekend & monday i will call should i have the fuel filter changed?

taht would not hurt in the least. This is still very odd. Did it drive fine when you did get to drive it? Are you pressing the gas and flooding it when you try to start it. go there monday and watch the machanic closely. see if he has a toggel switch he is hitting or something this is very odd.

p.s. what is a heat sensor?? i have worked on my own cars for some time and have never heard of one.

the heat sensor or temp sensor that controls the fan, there were two sensors i saw changed. also i would like to state that i was driving the car fine after i got it back and no i did not flood the caR by depress the gas pedal,but it is very cold here in NY and when it warms up the car does start also i was on a quarter tank of gas, in freezing weather. the mech is right off the water in queens ny and the car starts. i dont get it its colder there & it starts & @ my house im not off the water & it wont start

Aw.. Yes the ECT sensor, I only have one and have never changed it. Well I did not fully appreciate the extreme cold you have up there. I'm afraid I do not know what to do. I would suggest putting a car cover on, but that would just freeze to the car and trap you out.......but I have another though. Mind you this is way outside the box and I am totally unsure about this...If you park your car near a receptacle, what do you think about popping the hood and throwing an electric blanket under there before going to bed????? May be a bad idea, but it is something to think about, even if your only thought is I am an idiot.

yes the mech changed that & another switch that he said they work together. it was connected 2 the fan. then the fan would not shut off & he tapped the relay said it was stuck & then the fan shut off. No I dont think ur an idiot my dad said the same thing. only he didnt say electric. right now the car is @ the mech near the water. Im going 2 fill the tank & add dry gas with fuel injector cleaner & change the fuel filter. what do you think? the mech mentioned he thought water was in the tank.

well that is about all you can do at this point. If you do try a blanket, just make sure the engine is not too hot before ou put it on. You could also try a higher octain of fuel for the first go around if you think you have water in the gas. you could also check to make sure that there are no vacuum leaks around the intake, that does effect the starting of cold engines, but in that sense cold is just not run and not freezing. good luck and keep us posted.

I always use 93 octane & i went to the mech & it gave me a problem starting @ first then it started. the mech thinks its the fuel pump relay that might b stuck because the fan would not shut off when i stopped the car & he hit the relay with a flashlight & its stopped. so i chose 2 change both relays fuel & fan. & the said there was no vacuum leaks. i also asked if i should change the fuel filter & he said "no" cause when it does start it runs fine and when he hits the gas it takes off! Im getting it back wed. lets c what happens then.
