Stuck in four wheel drive

If it won't come out of low range, the problem is with the transfer case. The first thing I recommend checking is if you are getting power to the actuator on the transfer case.

Thanks..I got it to shift out of 4lo..I think it was frozen from all the snow.

That is good. I doubt it was frozen, but it may have just been tight if you had a lot of torque on it.

I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota 4 x 4 put it in 4 x 4. Tried to climb a steep hill and started up when I hear a short grinding sound climb a little more and it makes the sound again. proceeded to take it out of 4 x 4 and very hard to get out of 4 x 4. Got it out. When I'm driving down the road I hear this knocking or clatter loud while going down the road. Help

Hey ALIZARD,

As JACOBANDNICKOLAS said previously it is unlikely that the transfer case is frozen and not coming out of 4x4LO sometimes it just the load will not allow the shift.

If it will not shift out of 4x4LO try rolling forward and backwards and then retrying the shift.
Your transmission must be in neutral when shifting.

If this does not work try the shift whilst rolling forward slowly in neutral, by slowly i mean around walking pace.
