When I try to start my Dakota first thing in the morning at first it acts like a dead starter (click-click-click). If I try again a few times it will eventually start turning and then start up, but as soon as I release the gas it dies. A few more tries and it eventually starts and maintains the idle. If I leave it for a couple of hours it starts but with difficulty. The next day, the process repeats. I don't know if this is a starter issue, battery issue or some other engine problem. Any advice is appreciated. Once it starts it appears to run fine.

Get both starter and battery load tested Check fuse E 20amp, fuse no. 16 50amp and fuse no.12 10amp if okay do below Get a helper to hold key at cranking position check for power at the starter relay red and tan wire-do youi have it? Probable causes: could be the ignition switch, starter relay, clutch interlock switch
