Steering problem
2000 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2000 dodge dakota with a 3.8 V6. The truck
has a constant power steering whine. I have replaced the pump twice with no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated. This has to be the worst vehicle I have ever owned!!!

Hi:
Did you replace the pump with a factory pump or an aftermarket remufactured?

The dealer replaced it the first time, I put an after market in after that. I am thinking that it may be the
fluid that was used, I put in ATF after the dealer replaced the pump and also put in ATF. I am going to drain the system and put in the recommended fluid

Hi Again:
You can try that. BG or Valvoline, I can't remember which, makes a product that actually services the PS pump. Here in Pa., some of the quick lubes offer a service that removes all the old fluid and replaces it with new plus an additive.

Let me know what you decide.

I drain and flushed the power steering system and replaced the fluid with the dealer recommended with no luck, the pump still whines just as much.

The only thing I can say is it's the pump. I will ask some of the other techs and see if they have any other suggestions.

Is there any warranty on the present pump?
