2000 Dodge Dakota High pitched sound

I have a high pitched sound comming from the transmission. I know it is comming from the transmission because it quits when the transmission shifts without my changing the pressure on the accellerator. It doesn't happen in high gear. It also seems to stop when the torque converter locks. Changing pressure on the gas pedal does not effect the whine. The fluid level is fine.

I do not have a computer code check device and there are no Check Engin lights on on the dash board. The high pitched sound happens when I shift the tranmission manually too. The sound is more like a wind sound than a metal on metal sound. It rained very hard here the other day. I had to drive through a large amounts of water sveral times. The next day there was no sound. Today the sound only occurred occassionally.

Symptoms indicates the torque converter is the cause. If the noise is present when in P or N and shifting to D or R changes the noise level or goes away, that would confirm the torque converter as the main suspect.

The sound is not present when the transmission is in park or neutral. It only lasts for a short period and quits when the tranmission shifts or it feels like the torque converter locks. If I take my foot of the gas it causes the transmission to react and the sound quits until it happens again in second. It never happens in high gear.

Keep the trans manually in L or 2 and try if the noise are present at all speeds.

What is the transmission code? I need it to get more information.

If the noise is affected by water, then there is a possibility it is from external and not from the transmission.

Check if the torque converter drive plate bolts are secure. Some do get worked loose.
